Mild or bitter?

This week it has been rather mild and so little rain. I think it's the driest week since the first week in September. We have had >20 inches (514 mm) since then. It has turned a little colder now and the forecasters are expecting some wintery weather over the next week or so. Could be good for an influx of new birds!

This week was peculiar in that I only ringed 4 species, out of 12 species caught, and >70% were of one species, namely our speciality, Goldfinch. 25 different individuals were retrapped, a handful twice (excluded from figures below).

Aberrant juvenile Jackdaw

Spotted this out of the window this morning; it has been around for a while now. It is, more often than not, alone. Obviously cold-shouldered by its siblings/parents. It seems to have partly attached itself to the 'Roughmoor 6' that frequent ours and our neighbours roofs.

Now to decorate our re-furbished downstairs loo as it's raining.
